Terry’s Tips: Appeal to Buyer Emotions with Spring Scents

The smell of a house makes a huge difference for anyone entering your home. Buyers are emotional when shopping for a house – they’re looking for a home with future families in mind, friends coming to visit, Christmastime around the fireplace – there are so many different memories wrapped up in a house that you can appeal to when selling your home. Luckily, many of these memories come from our sense of smell, which you can encourage when potential buyers are coming through this spring.

Remember: you never want an overwhelming, distracting scent to take away from a buyer’s experience when they’re walking through. You just want it to be subtle, a pleasant presence that gives them the taste of the season. Perhaps put a small bouquet of fresh flowers out on the kitchen table before they arrive, maybe a gardenia floating in water. If you’re going to light a candle, once again, remember to choose a mild scent.
