Creating Comfort and Warmth in Your Home

January 3, 2012

A house that does not have one worn, comfy chair in it is soulless.  ~May Sarton

I don’t know if I’d say a home is soulless without a worn chair, but comfy and inviting is a must – especially on days when it drops below 40 degrees here in Charleston!

Do you have a favorite piece of furniture that just welcomes you to sit down, snuggle up and take it easy? On cold days like this, it’s something I think about even more – especially if a fire is going and the sun has already set. How do you arrange a room to encourage this warmth and comfort? Here are a few ideas I like:

Love how the candles give extra brightness to this contrasting living area.

The colors are so warm - but the blanket looks even warmer!

Even a neutral palate can be just as inviting.

What do you find most inviting – and appealing – in your own comfortable space? It doesn’t have to be a living room – maybe a bedroom, your bathroom, or perhaps the kitchen. I’d love your input!
